Originally born in Istanbul, Prassinos was exiled to France with his Greek parents where, as a young artist he overlapped with the Parisian Surrealists. After the war he began a longstanding relationship with Éditions Gallimard, providing etchings for work by John Paul Sartre, Arthur Rimbaud and Edgar Allen Poe.
